I was born and educated in Johannesburg, South Africa, and have been in Arizona since June 2, 2000.
I graduated Cum Laude with my Masters Degree in 1986 from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg (a universally recognized University).
In South Africa, I had extensive clinical experience working with individuals, couples, and families. I also worked with people with physical disabilities and visual loss. I went into Private Practice in South Africa in 1987, while at the same time tutoring and supervising the dissertations of fourth year social work honors students at the University of the Witwatersrand, and lecturing part-time to fourth year optometry students on low vision at the School of Optometry in Johannesburg.
Some of my achievements are:
- Awarded a substantive grant by the South African Government for my work with people with disabilities.
- I had several articles published in various professional journals, such as: “Rehabilitation in South Africa”; “Imfama”—published by the National Council for the Blind; the “South African Optical Dispenser” as well as articles in one of the major national newspapers.
- Invited to visit and lecture at low vision clinics and colleges in the USA regarding my original research on low vision for my Masters Degree.
- Appointed to the first educational committee on low vision services for South Africa.
- Nominated as representative to the committee for the Bureau for the Preventation of Blindness in South Africa.
On arriving in the USA (Arizona), I worked in the Behavioral Health Field as well as for an organization providing Employee Assistance Programs, (EAP) services. I went into Private Practice in the USA in 2006. Thus, I have now had 20 years experience in Private Practice.
- In 2001, I was appointed to the Employment Committee of the Phoenix Mayor’s Commission on Disability Issues, where I served for 3 years.
- Supervised field placements of graduate and undergraduate students for ASU
- In 2006, I became a US citizen.
I have had extensive experience and training in Individual Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Techniques, Solution-Focused Therapy, Family/Marital Therapy and EAP.
